Baker's Man Inc.'s cakes are created with only the finest
of ingredients. Pure sugars and butter are always used,
never substitued for more economic choices that might make the
cake dry or the frosting greasy. Fresh fruits create the seasonal
fillings as well as Swiss and European chocolates embellish
the finest cakes. The wedding cake dates back to the early
Romans. During that time the cake was actually a thin loaf,
more bread than what we know as cake today. It was broken over
the brides head, as a symbol of fruitfulness and good fortune.
The guests then scrambled for the pieces in hope to secure good
luck for themselves.
In Anglo Saxon times guest brought small cakes to the wedding
and piled them up and then the wedding couple would try to reach
over it and kiss. This is how the French got the concept of
tiering the wedding cake. The tiered cake symbolizes prosperity
and has become a popular style in todays modern wedding.
The European style of wedding cake
is mostly white, as a symbol of purity. Todays bride demands
more colors and flavors to her cake. It seems that the traditional
white wedding cake is still very popular here in the Atlanta
area. I guess we like to stick to our tradtiions.
Groom's cakes- This cake has been
known as a southern thing as seen in the movie Steel Magnolias.
In contrast this style of cake has been around since the middle
ages. It was usually dark and solid and much smaller in comparison
to the white tiered wedding cake. It was served at the reception
besides the wedding cake, making a wonderful contrast in color,
shape, and flavor. It is said that if a single guest puts a
piece of the groom's cake under their pillow, they will dream
of their future marriage partner. There are many fun things
to do with this type of cake. Todays groom's cake is usually
based on a hobby or a special place that the couple has met.
There are many ways to present a groom's cake from being a sheet
with chocolate dipped strawberries to that of a three dimensional
figure made entirely of cake. The groom's cake can also be served
at the rehersal dinner. It is a great way to include your groom
in making a decision about the wedding by including him in picking
out this cake. I usually reccomend doing about 25-50% of your
guarantee when figuring out how big of a cake you want.
Anniversaries, baby showers, baptisms,
bar/bat mitzvah, birthday, and bridal showers are just some
reasons to have a cake made. There are many ways to celebrate
that special day besides a basic layer cake. Edible garnishes
made of chocolate or sugar are a great way to personalize
that cake for that special person. Many ideas that are presented
can be created into an edible work of art.
